Itinerary Details

0630hrs pick from Nairobi. An early head start is important so as to get to Sabache before the soaring temperatures. Samburus location is one of a kind, the panoramic backdrop; dramatic hills and cascading landscape make for an unforgettable safari. This is one of the driest counties in Kenya with temperatures ranging between 25°C during the coldest months (June and July) and 35°C during the hottest months (January to March)
You need time to relax from the day’s travel. Afternoon walk: Hiking trails around camp, wildlife viewing at camp (resident leopard, elephant corridor, wild dog pack, and more) traditional songs and dance at camp.
Enjoy dinner under the spectacular African stars
Overnight Sabache eco camp

Towering the samburu plains is the distinctive flat shape sacred Mt. Ololokwe one of the most striking natural features in this region. This massive mountain emerging seemingly out of nowhere from the desert plains is home to some of Africa’s rarest flora and fauna. Hike to the Ololokwe summit in the Namunyak Conservancy to explore the ancient cycad forest at its summit, with its impressive raptor nesting grounds and over 250 bird species. Most wildlife found on the plains can also be found at the summit of this table-rock mountain, which attracts wildlife and abundance of bird species with its 7 natural springs in this otherwise arid landscape.
There is a spectacular view and many like to camp overnight at the summit. As you climb the trails, suitable for all levels of hikers, you will explore its many rock formations such as the “Eye of God” and “Elephant Walk rock”, while the guides point out interesting biota and ecology of the mountain.
The forest is home to Buffalo and Elephant, which you might see if you are lucky. We’ll picnic on a special rock outcropping near the natural spring river found at the summit, Namunya “Rhino” River. After exploring the mountain, you can opt to camp at the summit or return to the base camp where you will relax with drinks around the fire after hot showers and later have a sit down dinner under a canopy of stars.
(Hike 3-5 hour each way)

– Birds, singing wells, cultural village visit Today you will trek across the Samburu Plains and along sand rivers to the next safari destination, the legendary Chapulo Lugga where, for hundreds of years, the Samburu and other pastoralists have gathered to collect water with their herds. Along the way you will explore rock formations, trees growing out of crevasses, and bird life, reptiles, insects and other interesting findings. Greater Kudu, for instance, are often found grazing along the hillsides and we will search for these elusive animals as we make our way towards our destination.
You will take lunch under the shade of a large acacia on the edge of the sandy lugga, afterwards heading out on a short walk looking for game and getting a feel for the this area.
The Chapulo Lugga encompasses one of the largest Singing Wells in the region. As you draw closer to the vast Chapulo Lugga, you will hear distant ancestral songs and chants and observe herdsmen arriving with their livestock from every direction. The river is rarely flowing on the surface of the riverbed. Instead, water must be collected from hand-dug sand river wells that warriors have excavated with the most rudimentary, handcrafted tools and their bare hands, in desperation to keep their families and herds alive. The warriors sing to their cattle as they come to drink and as they stand on one another’s shoulders handing buckets of water upwards
Afterwards, you will visit a nearby traditional Samburu village to learn more about the fascinating and rich culture of these traditional pastoral herders. You will spend time with villagers in an authentic Samburu homestead to experience first-hand their daily lives, culture, knowledge such as playing traditional rock games, learning fire-making or crafting bows and arrows from bush materials and have archery games with the warriors. Women often share their traditional crafts, such as bead-making, weaving, crafting a water container from gourds, etc. There is also singing and dancing. If we are fortunate, they might extend an invitation to observe a traditional ceremony
Return to camp in the evening have a hot shower. Have drinks by the fire as you share the days experiences.
Enjoy a three-course dinner under the African stars.
