Salaita Hill
Explore fortified German outpost where intense World War 1 battles unfolded; a key historic site surrounded by breathtaking Tsavo wilderness.
Snipers Baobab
Visit the iconic baobab tree used by German snipers during WW1—an eerie, silent witness to forgotten wartime tales.
Taita Hills
Known as the “Switzerland of Kenya,” these scenic hills were once a strategic point and hospital site during WW1.
Mzima Fort
Tour the ruins of this ancient defensive position near Mzima Springs, known for its commanding views and WW1 history.
Crater Hill
Climb to this elevated vantage point overlooking Tsavo River, offering insights into British communication and defence strategies during WW1.
Latema Nek
Wander through the final battlefield site in British East Africa—where fierce clashes between German and British troops took place.
Mahoo Church
Visit the first inland church in Kenya, a British missionary station that doubled as a headquarters during the colonial battles.
Mashoti Fort
Discover remains of this crucial fortification, offering a glimpse into the tactical operations that shaped WW1's East African campaign.
Itinerary Details
Day 1: Mombasa
Upon arrival we pick you up from the airport and proceed to Taita Taveta.
Check in. Lunch
Game viewing drive
Dinner and overnight at Salt Lick Safari lodge
Day 2: Taveta, Latema Nek, Mahoo, Salaita Hill
After breakfast, depart from Taita and proceed to the border town of Taveta.
Your ranger guide will take you through the story of the battles and the activities that took place at each site.
Visit the Common Wealth War Grave Cemetery in Taveta; Old British East Africa Police
Station where first shot of WW1 East African Campaign was fired; Latema Nek the final battlefield in BEA; Mahoo CMS station and German HQ.
Crossing the Lumi River drive to Salaita Hill; scramble amongst the German fortification on Salaita Hill and Snipers Baobab.
Dinner and overnight at Voyager Ziwani Camp
Day 3: Crater Hill, Mzima Fort, Maktau Railway station
Early breakfast and proceed to Tsavo west national park. Game drive enroute visit the two main lines of communication forts, one at Crater Hill overlooking the Tsavo River, then continue to Mzima Fort (sometimes called Frosts Castle).
Dinner and overnight Voyager Ziwani Camp
Day 4: Taita Hills, Bura Mission, Mile 27, Mashoti
After breakfast take a scenic drive up Taita Hills (the Switzerland of Kenya), to Bura Mission (built1892), a WW1 Hospital station, continue to Mile 27 Battlefield, Mashoti Fort.
Later proceed to Mombasa. Drop off at your beach resort to start your amazing beach holiday
Dinner and overnight Voyager Beach resort
